How to Install Crown Molding: Home & Garden – Home Interior Ideas
tinyurl.com How to Install Crown Molding: Home & Garden – Home Interior Ideas Crown molding is a strip of ornate wood that you can paint or stain to match a room’s decor. It adds elegance to the walls and is most commonly found in older homes. However, it can easily be added to newer homes as well. The most difficult part of installing crown molding is mitering the ends to the proper angle. A miter saw takes some of the guesswork out of this task. Instructions: Step 1: Measure the width of your crown molding. If the molding is less than 3 inches wide, nail it to the wall’s top plates. If the molding is more than 3 inches wide, nail it to the wall studs. Use a stud finder to locate the studs. Normally studs are set every 16 inches. Step 2: Measure the first wall’s length. If the first wall is longer than one strip of crown molding, miter the adjoining end at a 45-degree angle with a miter saw. Make a left 45-degree miter if you are working counterclockwise around the room or a right 45-degree miter if you are working clockwise. Step 3: Cut the adjoining piece of molding using the same 45-degree miter. Lift the first piece of molding and position it in the ceiling corner. Use a pneumatic nailer and 2-inch finishing nails to secure the molding in place to either the top plate or the wall studs. Step 4: Spread a thin layer of wood glue onto the second piece of the molding’s mitered end. Lift the piece up to the ceiling and position the two pieces’ mitered ends tightly …
